How many people will be on the Walk?

We want the Walk to be a good social and educational experience, as well as great exercise. We have therefore decided to limit the group to 150 Walkers plus appropriate staff. So sign up now before it is too late!!

I’m thinking of going but am hesitant to go alone? Who else is going or thinking of going?

We expect many people to come on their own and others to come in pairs and or groups. Check out our list of Walkers section . See other people who are walking. Maybe you will find a long lost friend or classmate.

If I go alone will I have a hard time meeting other people?

No !! Many Walkers come on their own and look forward to meeting new people. We can almost guarantee you will have some new friends before you leave, whether you come alone or with a group.

Do I have to be an expert walker?

No. You don’t have to be an expert Walker.  Any average person in good health can  do the Walk.

Tell me more about the political message behind the Walk.

On November 29, 1947 the United Nations decided to partition the Land of Israel/Palestine into two states - one Jewish (Israel) and one Arab (Palestine) [UN General Assembly Resolution 181 (Nov 1947)]  Israel was created in 1948 but the Palestinian state has yet to be created.  The Green Line border set in the armistice agreements of 1949 marks the line that designates the basis of the future border between Israel and Palestine.  Since the beginning of the occupation of the West Bank and East Jerusalem following the June 1967 war, the green line border has been gradually disappearing.  Walk the green line is a political statement aimed at marking the line where the future border should be so that Israeli-Palestinian peace can emerge and develop.

Who’s leading the Walk?

The Walk will be led by Guides selected by IPCRI, and by staff from IPCRI.

Are we just going to Walk, all day, every day?

No. This is more than just a Walk. Each day will have educational-political programs as well. We will stop at various points during the day to learn about the areas where we are walking. In addition to our licensed tour guide, we will various interesting Israeli and Palestinian personalities along the way.  We will also meet with Israelis and Palestinians who are working for peace. We will see first hand the Israeli security barrier in both of its forms - fences and wall.  We will spend time with a special focus on the separation wall in Jerusalem.

What kind of support will be provided?

We will provide lots of support in addition to our Tour Guide and our experienced  tour leaders. The Walk will be accompanied by multiple vehicles at all times, a lead vehicle, and other roving support cars. The Walk staff will assist you in any way they can; food and water stops,  first aid, waiting while you rest and moral support and encouragement. This is not an endurance test, so if you need a break from walking, you can jump into the sag wagon and get help catching up to the rest of the group.

On May 29 - 31 , 2008
you can participate in a three-day experience that will also make
a direct contribution towards supporting the efforts of Israelis and Palestinians who are
working for peace. Walk the green line is a fundraising walk-a-thon in which your
participation and personal experience makes a contribution to peacemaking.
